Can't convert MKV to MP4

Postby InsolublePancake » 24 Sep 2016 15:22

I have some MKV files (720p, x265, aac) and I've been trying for days to find the right settings to convert them to mp4. Really any format that would work on a samsung tv would be fine but none of the settings I've tried work and I can't find any in-depth guide to what the various settings do. Ideally I'd just leave the video and audio as they are and repackage them as MP4 but I've read that the container won't accept H.265 in vlc, so I've tried setting that to H.264 and various others but to no avail. The audio stream is copied very quickly then the program crashes. I don't get any error messages.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Transcoding is somehow broken in recent builds, this is a known issue awaiting for a fix.
Meanwhile you should use an older version.

I downloaded a video into .mp4 and it does not play on my Samsung tv (using DVD... its for my Mom). Are there some .mp4 parameter that are in VLC and which need to be set?
