Streaming in VLC is possible?

I do watch streams with Windows 7 on my desktop connected to my TV. The format of the streams is usually differnet from that of my TV, so I would prefer to use VLC to watch the stream.

This morning I wanted to do this, clicked on VLC and in the "Media" menu found "Open Network stream", pasted the URL of the stream into the pop up and .... nothing
Can someone help an old man and explain how to do it (if it is possible)?
Thank you

You must give the URL of the video, not of the page.

Thank you JB. IF it is possible, I would be very happy...

What is the difference and where do I find the URL I want.
Right now f.e, the url of a website with a working stream is

http://live.robinwidget.com/streamvideo ... 71301.html

What could the url of the video look like?

You cannot guess that easily.

Jesus --please stay polite-- Christ.... is it really so hard to give a simple answer to an simple question?

If I want to guess, I will-. I have mailed three times to the forum because I want to KNOW, I do not want to guess!

Sorry, but I have no crystall ball. You can open the website source and track the URL of the video, if you really want.
