VLC web plugin 2.2.4 not activating in Firefox 47.0 (64-bit)

I installed 64-bit VLC version 2.2.4 and then downloaded/installed the 64-bit .xpi file. I'm using Firefox 47.0 64-bit, and when I download the 64-bit .XPI file, it appears to install in Firefox, but doesn't show up on the Plug-ins page, but rather the Extensions page. That's not the problem. The problem is, that VLC never activates. The web page displays "A plugin is needed to display this content."
Here's the relevant snippet of HTML web page code.
Is there something here that should be changed/updated to activate the VLC extension automagically?
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice or suggestions!

On Firefox 64bit, only the Flash Player is white listed to run. You will need Firefox 32bit and VLC 32bit.

Un-believable...

Fortunately, the x64 PaleMoon browser does not have this ridiculously restrictive whitelist.
The VLC x64 plugin .xpi file works perfectly using the PaleMoon browser.

Works also fine with Waterfox. In addition, unsigned xpi packages will be accepted there. Firefox blocks them, also on 32bit.

Can someone clarify this thread? Does this mean it is impossible to get VLC 2.2.x 64 bit running on FireFox 64 bit? Are there any workarounds?

Yes, only Flash and Silverlight are whitelisted. This is hardcoded in Firefox, so we cannot do anything.
Workarounds are to use Firefox 32bits or a fork (like Waterfox)

Are you sure?
If I search for "Firefox" and "whitelist" I end up on this, from February...
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Plugins/Firefox_Whitelist
And if I follow the link §6 to the new Blocklisting policy, I end up on this list where the only VLC plug-in blocked is the 2.0.5 and older
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting
https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/blocked/
P.S.: I have the same problem. Impossible to install VLC 2.2.4 64bits on Firefox 50.0.2 64bits / Windows 7 SP1 64bits

Firefox no longer allows external plugins (nor does Chrome). So basically, no.
