Problem installing the latest update

When I used the VLC player today, I got a message that a new update (2,2,4) was available. So I downloaded the update and attempted to install it only to be stopped by the message "Error opening file for writing" the filename was "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\libvlccore.dll"
I have installed many updates in the years I have been using VLC. but I have never encountered this issue. Is the problem at my end, or is it a problem with the update? In either case, do you have any ideas what I should do? Thanks

Most likely VLC is still running in the background, close it (or worst case, reboot) and try again.

I rebooted and then downloaded and tried to install the the 64-bit version 2.2.4. I got exactly the same error message, so it's not a case of VLC already running. I'm really at a loss. I even went so far as to uninstall my current 64-bit VLC and install 2.2.4 as an initial install, but that failed too! The 32-bit version of 2.2.4 installs with no problems

I have encountered a similar problem only with C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\libvlc.dll
Anyone have a solution to this?

I am also having this problem with the 64-bit version. I have also tried rebooting my computer, but the problem still happens. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
I'm on Windows 10 64-bit. I run Avira Anti-virus.

FWIW I also attempted to run the 2.2.4 install after right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator" but this failed in exactly the same way

Check "Task Manager" "Processes" whether hidden VLC process is running. If so, terminate and install.

SOLVED! I am running Air Video Server HD, a really nice program that lets me stream videos from my computer to my tablet and phone. When I terminated that program, the VLC update worked perfectly. I then rebooted and restarted Air Video Server and everything works fine. I goes the video server referenced the VLC dll, probably to reference codecs, but that's just a guess.

Thanks, paulgottlieb. That worked for me.
