Update FFmpeg

Would it be possible for the developers to consider re-basing VLC against a more recent version of FFmpeg?
Particularly a version from after 4/13/16.
I request this because Paul B Mahol comitted two WMA lossless patches on 4/13 that greatly improved 24-bit support for WMA lossless.

I just tried the latest Branch and Trunk versions (4/25) of VLC for Windows and neither include those patches as 24-bit WMA lossless files just play with static.

Thanks.

VLC 2.2 is not compatible with FFmpeg 3.0 or later. Unless you have somebody to do all the fixing and testing that this entails, the answer is no.

No problem.
What about the Trunk?

Yeah, what about it? As far as I know, VLC from the development branch already works fine with FFmpeg 3.0.

Great, any plans to update it against a more recent FFmpeg release to better support 24-bit WMA Lossless?

I don't follow. You should be able to compile VLC with whatever recent version of FFmpeg you see fit.

Sorry for the confusion.
I meant for the nightly packages that VideoLAN builds and hosts.

Also, what version of FFmpeg is the Branch/2.2 compiled against?
I would like to know so I can ask someone over on the FFmpeg side to back port to that branch, if possible.

The ffmpeg branch: FFmpeg 2.8.6 "Feynman" (the second last of ffmpeg) is compatible with vlc-2.2.x with the compilation (but I am not sure if the "official" windows builds of vlc-2.2.x use exactly this branch or a former one).

My impression is that ffmpeg proposes (according to their website) many different branches and backports for many updates/patches/fixes also for some of the older branches.
