VLC Gives me blue screen of death

Postby Elias » 16 Oct 2005 09:37

It never used to give me blue screens before. It happens only with MPEG-4 video files. So far I've only tried them in mp4 and avi. In both containers, I get blue screens.

Now, my computer (Compaq Presario 701EA) used to have this exact same issue with the DivX 5.x decoder. Then I switched to the ffdshow filter and it stopped giving me blue screens. The XviD decoder doesn't have this issue either.

I posted (three years ago) this issue on the DivX forum, and they said something about my chip set lacking drivers from VIA. So they gave me a link to the VIA4in1 drivers, and when I installed them, it worked and the blue screens stopped. However, in the latest version of the VIA4in1 drivers, it has no effect on this blue screen issue with VLC, when decoding MPEG-4 files.
