Record button does not indicate the video is being rrecorded

I am sorry if this question is not specific to Windows.

The record button looks the same whether I am recording or not so I cannot determine whether I am recording.

I have looked at the available skins and many of them look nice but I cannot determine how functional they are nor if any solve this specific problem.

I have tried to find previous posts about this but I am unable to find something. I am surprised that no one else has this problem.

Is there a simple way to get the record button to indicate whether the video is being recorded?

Thank you, that describes the problem but does not provide a solution. I will try to find it in the "feature request forum" and if I can't find it I will add it. Is there any solution or work-around until the problem is fixed appropriately?

The feature request is Record button should show recording on/off. It is 6 years old.
