VLC v0.8.4 test1a: Cannot play any MKV files

When I open any MKV file, VLC closes the file after a few seconds without playing anything. I created the files I testedusing mkvmerge from AVIs that play correctly (DX50 and XVID codecs), and the MKV files play correctly with MPC.

The messages displayed are:

Is there a problem in mkv parsing or are there settings to change so I can play mkv files?

I have the same problem. It happens with every matroska file (divx, mpeg2,etc.)
