Memory issue when recording

Postby zoidanoid » 15 Jan 2016 18:33

I guess this is system specific, hence this subforum.
Using VLC V2.2.1 64bit on Windows 7 64bit.

Testing recording, by hitting the "record" button in the GUI.

Using a DVB-T source, things work well and as expected. (Except that the screen dimensions in the recorded file are wrong, much like when doing image screenshots... is that ever going to get fixed? And how about the screwed up timestamp in the filename?)

But using an IPTV source (SD dimensions), it takes only very few seconds for the recorded file to continuously grow to many GB in size (way more than even uncompressed video would). VLC also pretty much immediately starts to hog all available system RAM within seconds, at which point the system obviously becomes extremely unresponsive, VLC cannot be shut down manually anymore, and it's a real problem trying to even bring up a taskmanager to kill the process.

What gives?
