MP4 CHOPPY ON VLC BUT FLUID ON WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

Hi,

I am used to VLC playing all my files properly but recently I have run into a serious issue.

I have bought a new PC here is the config:

Graphicscard: Radeon Fury X
Radeon Software Version - 15.12
Radeon Software Edition - Crimson
Windows Version - Windows 10
System Memory - 32 GB
CPU Type - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz

When I try to play a file recorded with my go-pro with the format as shown below I have following issue:

- When playing in VLC the video is choppy and looks rather like a slideshow with a picture every other second than a 60 frames video.
- If I play the same file with the standard Windows Media player the file is smooth and perfect.

I have been reading many many pages and hints on how to fix and did the following:

- activate/deactive hardware decoding
- Put in options allow speed tricks
- Increased cache
- downloaded some codecs / deinstalled them afterwards again
-...

NOTHING would work I cannot get the file to run properly in VLC.

I have also other players Like adobe premiere Pro and even the go pro software not playing the file correctly. Eventually I thought is it a hardware issue but then again why does the windows media player play the file perfectly?

I would really appreciate some help.

I have the same poblem with go pro video 1080 / 120fps
video fluid with WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER and gopro studio software
but "choppy and looks rather like a slideshow" with vlc
I don't understand why :/

Could you post your system specs.
Do you have any other player where it is choppy?
Is the video fine in Go-Pro Studio or also choppy there?

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:

Thanks for the feedback.

I think I have actually found the cause of the problem. My CPU is currently running at 0.8 GHZ instead of 4.0 GHZ . This might actually be the whole problem, although it does not explain why windows media player is running fine.

I have no idea why the CPU is blocked but I have filed a ticket with MSI, where I got the motherboard from.

If this is not the final issue I will revert back here.

I have found the issue. On the motherboard there was a physical switch with prevented the CPU to go beyond 800MHZ. Took my some hours to find but now I have switch it off, the video runs fine!!!!!!!

I've got the same issue, except I know my computer is not restricting anything with my CPU or its cycles. Windows Media Player and Google Chrome are playing the video without issue.

I think its the outputting of the debug messages thats causing the choppy playback because windows takes time to output the messages. But i cant turn off the debug messages, anybody knows how?

Having the same problem here as well. Is this a case of VLC being packed with far more features than necessary? Or is it some hidden function we must turn on that the VLC team expects us to magically know about?

Meanwhile, Windows Media Player here I come I guess :/
