Stuck with subs

K i have the file:

bien-xvid-ff7.avi

And i have the subtitle files:

bien-xvid-ff7-subs.rar and bien-xvid-ff7-subs.sfv

Which one should i use and could someone give a step by step procedure on how to get the subtitles to work and what the settings should be used?

maybe you should unpack the archive "bien-xvid-ff7-subs.rar" first!?

Its not a package, it can't be unpacked. I have winzip and it doesnt appear when i search in the folder it's in.

It's a .rar package. It CAN be unpacked if you use a proper unrar'er.

The sub file is called: bien-xvid-ff7.sub

The movie is called: bien-xvid-ff7.avi

1. both files, avi and sub have to be in the same directory
2. open avi file in vlc
3. you should then find in menu under video a "subtitle track" selection

figured i would post this here instead of starting a new post. i have the new final fantasy movie on a cd that i'm trying to play on vlc. the movie plays fine, but it's in japanese and i can't get the subtitles to work. the file that comes with the movie file on the cd is a .srt. any help would be appreciated.

It still doesnt work, what should the fuzziness and paths be at? And when you say directory do you mean folder?

Place both the .avi file and the .srt in the same folder.
Then open vlc, goto File->Open File...
Click browse, locate the .avi file...
Then click subtitle options, and click Settings...
Click browse and locate the .srt file...
Click ok, click ok...

When it starts playing goto Video->Subtitles->Track 1

(I haven't actually done this myself, but that's probably how you do it.)

Best bit of advice i've received. I got the subs to work but they're in japanese....

Open the .srt file in a text editor...
Does it look like english or does it look like japanese?

(Again, I haven't done this so I don't know if you can
view .srt files in a text editor to tell what language it is...)

The "en" part of bien-xvid-ff7.sub may suggest it's english, but I'm not sure about the "bien" part... I don't know.
There are english subs out there for ff7-ac

bien is the name of the group who has 'hacked' the new FF7 film
and if you need subs in english, they can be googled easily
