VLC Suddenly Stopped Working...

VLC has always been pretty stable over the years I've used it but that ended yesterday. I tried to open a 720p mp4 I know played before and VLC blinked, and I got the crash popup... did I want to send an error report.

I installed the latest version I downloaded yesterday, which apparently uninstalled the old version first... not quite a clean install. That didn't work. I restarted the PC... nope. I doublechecked the firewall and AV settings... nothing helped.

If I click on a file to open VLC as the default program it crashes.

If I open VLC first... it crashes... comes back up... but I can't open any file from the Media Tab either. VLC just disappears... no crash dump popup.

There are NO multiple instances of VLC showing up in Task Manager.

I'm running Win 8.1, i5, 8gigs of RAM. Here's the crashdump... maybe someone else can make sense of it. Is there some other log I can post?

Fixed it. I reset all the preferences. I didn't need to do any more of the other steps listed here
