You can't. Existing releases do not support casting to Chromecast

There's a less snotty answer in the updates and features request that shows you how to do it using the beta version of VLC 3.0. It is the one that says VLC Chromecast I think.

Maybe the developer can accurately answer when 3.0 is coming out? I'm not trying to be mean, but I've been looking around the forums and there are many comments about 3.0 coming out and speculation and complaints about delays etc so there is no timeline that I can see. I am excited to see it coming since it has chromecasting built in. Another thing the developer above failed to mention.

Remi, I appreciate the product since VLC is marvelous. Would you not consider telling someone that it is coming and that there are already forums discussing this? Diplomacy and developer are not always related, but in forums, maybe they could be?

VLC 3.0 will be released when it will be ready, and it might or might not support Chromecast'ing. If you are disatisfied, you are welcome to help.
