activate transcoding option in streaming

Hello,
I'm trying to understand the scheckbox "activate transcoding" for streaming. I couldn't find a documentation for this option.
Does it mean that the video encoding does not "transcode" or does it also mean that the container is left unchanged ,i.e.
if I de-select activate transcoding what is the usage of the profile (I see that the profile is still activate as if it still have meaning even when "activate transcoding" is unchecked.
Thank you,
Ran

Without transcoding input equals output.

Hi kodela,
Just to make it clear, input equals output includes the container (format) too ?
I don't yet understand how VLC get along with these together with profile information, for example, say the input file is h.264 , mpeg-ts, while the profile is h.265 + MP3(MP4) , (and the "activate transcoding" in unchecked), how will vlc behaves with such contradictions ?
It seems more reasonable that on unchecking activate transcoding, the profile will be disabled.
Thank you for the time,
Ran

Why not transcoding videos in VLC? I prefer a professional video software to handle the video transcoding process.

Hi,
I don't want to transcoding videos becuase it is not required. The video is already in the exact format needed.
The checkbox "activate transcoding" has importance in my case, because I want to be sure that the exact video+container is output.
I'm just not sure about profile information, becuase it seems reasone that this option will be disabled when unchecking "activate transcoding".

If the "Transcoding" option is not selected, there is no transcoding of elementary streams. To that extent the profile setting will not affect the result.
However, vlc uses the container for streaming depending on the profile settings.

Thank you kodela,
Does it mean that vlc will anyway stript our the original container and put instead a new container - even if the original and new are the same ?

Ran

Yes, the same, but not a copy, if this is set in the profile so.
