size of the display

Postby Sebastian42 » 12 Jun 2015 11:33

I have set VLC as the default player for all my video files. When I double click video files, they open in various different sizes, some of them so large, that the controls are out of view, below the bottom of the screen. Is it possible to set a maximum size so that the controls are always accessible ?

You can not set a maximum size, but you can adjust with "Zoom video" the scaling factor (for example, half size with 0.5) and you can with Video X / Y coordinate to set the position.

Thank you for those suggestions. I have not found the Video X/Y coordinate settings, and the Zoom Video appears to be greyed out until a video is playing. I was hoping to set a default BEFORE an undesirable size 'happened'.

Thank you again for pursuing this further. I could not RECOGNISE any useful options in Video. Are 'they' in Output, or in Display Device ? In not Video, but Interface, there is a tickbox for 'Resize interface to video size. That sounds promising. Will UNtick it and see if it has the desired effect.

I think that some Linux programmer will answer saying "this feature is already in VLC" and nothing else of useful, but, I ask everyone: is it possible to have a STEP-BY-STEP info about how resizing every video present in a playlist to the same fixed height (for example 640 pixel) so to avoid the issue (using zoom or no zoom) of large video out of screen and small video big as a mail-stamp? You know that every playlist has different video sizes.
Other programs allows this in a very easy way, without making you frustrated by trying lots and lots of combinations.
Thankyou so much in advance to everyone,

all the preferences never open all videos to a fixed sized window neither they do do what their name let's us suppose they do; the info say the meaning of option like 0 or -1 but they don't say what if you enter another number;
whatever you do in the preferences doesn't work as you espect;
every player has features easy to be settled, to choose and to fix the window size and the video size, while VLC team Always says «it's in the preferences» but never and never and really never they spent 1 word to explain and to show in detail how, for example, to have constant height of 800 pixel for every video playing.....
obviously this is the preferences....- Sauro
