All of my videos from my galaxy S5 are playing rotated

Since upgrading to 2.2.1, all of my videos that i record with my samsung galaxy S5 are playing back rotated 90 degrees. I tried going into the effects menu and geometry, it is not checked. if i do check it, it rotates the videos the way they used to appear (wide), but it immediately pauses, turns green and choppy and stops playing until i uncheck the rotate feature, which makes it go back to tall and skinny and sideways. how can i disable this "automatic" rotation ? :( VLC has always been my choice for video playback since i can remember, this is pretty frustrating .__.

I have the same problem now on some of my mp4's from my S3, did you find a solution yet?

i dont have any on my computer right now to share .. but basically they are .mp4 files from my samsung galaxy s5, 1920x1080 ..it used to automatically adjust to widescreen if the video was recorded that way (holding it sideways while recording), but now those videos are rotated and i gotta tilt my head to see it right x_x; i think i might try some kind of video editing software to change the format possibly and try it again

I have the same problem on my PC (Win7 x64). Some of my Smartphone (xperia z3) mp4 videos are playing vertical, others are correct horizontal.
This happens ONLY in VLC. Windows Media Player and ZoomPlayer are playing ALL files correct!

All VLC-transform-effects are disabled. If I enable "rotate 90° " the vertical ones are played correct, BUT then the horizontal ones are played vertical. So this is no solution.

PS:
- I just noticed that some are rotated 90° others 180°
- if I convert the mp4 to mkv, they are played correctly in VLC (avidemux)
- so far all files that are played wrong are from the smartphone

Must be something wrong with the "mp4 rotation detection".

As requested, please share problematic sample files.

Use either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

After some more testing:
It might be a user error. I noticed the wrong videos are all filmed from top-down perspective. In that position the smartphone sensor changes display orientation very easily.
The orientation of the video is set when you start filming.

Other players like Windows Media Player and Zoom Player are playing ALL videos in landscape format, even verticaly filmed ones. So VLC is the only one doing it right :-)

Wrong videos can be corrected by re-saving with avidemux http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/
Just open file, leave Video- and Audio-Output as "copy" and select Output-Format "MP4 Muxer", then "Save Video". No re-coding, so it´s superfast.

For reference I uploaded video_orientation.zip with the following files to http://streams.videolan.org/upload/
(no Trac Ticket)

MOV_0003_horizontal_correct.mp4
MOV_0005_vertical_correct.mp4
MOV_0010_horizontal_wrong.mp4
MOV_0010_horizontal_wrong_avidemux.mp4
video_orientation.txt

Maybe randeh has a different problem, since he wrote "ALL of my videos that i record with my samsung galaxy S5 are playing back rotated 90 degrees"
