VLC Media Player 2.2.1 has no video

I just install VLC 2.2.1 with the following results. The installation ran with no problems. When I tried to play a DVD, the result was audio without video (a black screen was present). I am running Windows XP with SP 3 usually on Google Chrome. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to fix it? Thank you.

Try another video output module:
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... _output.3F

And/or disable/enable GPU acceleration:
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... age_errors

You can also try to enable or disable some video options such as Overlay and/or Hardware YUV -> RGB conversions.

I went to http://wiki.videolan.org/windowsFAQ2.0...output3F and got the following instructions:

Why does VLC only give black, white or garbled (or other visual errors) video output?
Usually the problem lies in display adapter drivers. If you are too scared to update your display adapter drivers, you can change VLC settings to make video work. If you are using Windows XP or older the easiest fix is usually to disable Accelerated video output/Overlay video output which can be found first opening Tools -> Preferences and then choosing Video. After you have unticked the Accelerated video output, press Save to save VLC settings and restart VLC after that to make sure changes are enabled. Image about Overlay video output setting
If disabling Overlay video output doesn't help, then the next step is to change video output module (aka VOUT). Open Tools -> Preferences (set Show Settings to All) and then choosing Video -> Output module. There are multiple output modules you can use. For Windows XP and younger you can try DirectX 3D, DirectX, OpenGL and Windows GDI video output modules. With Windows Vista and with Windows 7, both DirectX and Windows GDI output modules will disable Aero, so if you want to use Aero, please use DirectX 3D (should be default). Remember to press Save to save VLC settings and restart VLC after that to make sure changes are enabled. Image about video output modules setting

I wound up choosing WindowsGDI and my DVD began to play. Thank you VideonLANForum.

I had this problem also when I upgraded VLC to v2.2.1 on my XP SP3. The disabling of Accelerated video output/Overlay video output fixed it.

How do I disable Accelerated video output/Overlay video output?

Even after un-checking 'Accelerated video output' video was not displayed, I've tried selecting all the output options and one by one they didn't show any video.
It happened only after the update, is there any known bug by now?
Thanks

Update: after changing the video to track to 'none' and then back to 'track 1' (video ->video track -> none then change back video ->video track -> track 1) the video came back. don't know what causes it however its a way to work around it.

Please, upload a short sample of a file showing this behaviour to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

This works fine with VLC for me on Linux. This is because this file has 5ps, please increase your caching.

Your FLV files are not valid and broken because they don't have a header.

Thanks for the advice JB, I increased it from 300ms to 1000ms and it works.
(about how to increase I found here: http://superuser.com/questions/683520/h ... line-files)

I have used your product for years without a problem. Just downloaded this version and now there is a loud pulsing / crackling noise interfering with the audio. I need advise ASAP as these are instructional videos and the audio really helps.

Used VLC Media for years w/o a problem. When I downloaded the latest revision, there is now a loud pulsating noise that blocks out the audio. I was advised to remove the software and re-download it but the noise is still there. Any ideas why this is?
