VLC 2.2.1 playback issues - frustrated

VLC 2.1.5 played HD and 4K30P H.264 files perfectly. Then I installed 2.2.1 on two computers and that was the end of it. I tried every possible combination of settings I know, the video freezes-macroblocks-then continues. Both my computer are very high-end editing workstations. One with AMD R9 280x and Nvidia Dual K6000's. I unistalled, deleted preferences, and re-installed 2.1.5 ... The problem persists! VLC absolutely won't play video it used to. I re-installed video drivers and even bios/chipset...nothing. Is anyone having this problem? Is there a VLC registry cleaner available. I am completely lost on this.

:) Think I may have partially fixed this issue.
Increased number of threads [Input codecs/--/ffmpeg: Threads [0 is auto] Set to the number of CPU cores you have.
Not sure if [Auto] really works, but 4K30P@200Mbps plays smoothly now.
Doesn't hurt to overclock your CPU/GPU either.

[It only took me three days to figure this one out.]

I'm having the same issue too, so annoying. With previous versions was working perfect.

The new 2.2.1 has messed up all my videos, anyone know how to get/download the previous version, which was working perfectly.

2.2.1 has some serious issues. But I was able to make it work by changing these settings:
Set to either Open GL or Direct-X [Direct draw]
> overlay on
> disable hardware decoding.
> enable threads [0=auto and doesn't work correctly] change to the number of cpu cores you have or higher.
> Increase the priority of the process.

You can try reducing quality for H.264:
> Reduce: Post-processing level
> De-blocking filter: all [this will hurt quality]

Otherwise: VLC website has all the older versions. I would suggest 2.1.1 or 2.1.5

Please share your logs. This is weird.

I just uninstalled and downgraded to 2.1.1 which has worked out well for about an hour or so. Then one song since has had even slighter pauses. May be fluke, not sure yet.
