Interactive menus in DVD special features

I am trying to play a DVD that has an interactive gallery menu in the DVD special features. It gives instructions on how to navigate using a DVD remote control. The VLC navigation controls do not seem to work. I've had this problem several times before and wonder what the trick is.

I have VLC media player 1.0.0-rc3 Goldeneye on an off-line Windows 2k PC.

VLC 1.0 is old and buggy.

Navigating a still gallery on a dvd.

I cannot navigate through some still galleries on DVDs. Instructions on the screen say to use the next (>>|) and previous (|<<) buttons on my remote control. Don't have a remote since I am playing the DVD on my computer. None of the buttons on the on-screen vlc controller work. The next/prev media takes me out of the gallery and back to the main menu. Next/prev chapter/title buttons do nothing. The only button on the start page of the gallery is the return to main menu.

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

If the images are separate chapters, they should be available via chapter menu

The above is the post I made 4 years ago with the same question. There was a reply to that post that I had not ever viewed. It does give me a method of viewing the gallery, but it is rather tedious. I have to return to the main DVD menu to view each page of the gallery, then click the playback tab, then the navigation tab, find in the title tab the images in the gallery listed as chapters, select the chapter and finally view an image. I have to repeat this whole process to view the next image/chapter. It works but I wish there was an easier way. I had hoped someone had found an easier way.

I am sure it is. The newer versions of VLC will not work on Windows 2k. Do you know which version is the newest that will work with my OS?

No, I don't. Please use a newer OS version.
