Very low FPS when playing UHD res videos

I got very low FPS when playing 4K UHD resolution videos on VLC 2.2.0 (32 bits, default settings) - many videos frames are lost.
I use Windows 7 64 bits and my screen resolution is FullHD and not 4K.
4K UHD videos are playing smoothly on the previous version of VLC, 2.1.5 (using the same machine).

Can you share logs? Start VLC from the command line and use the option -vvv . Once you have full logs (from starting vlc.exe to finishing video playback), please upload them to either the forum (~60 KB upload limit) or to Pastebin.com . The logs are necessary to understand what exactly is happening with the video decoder. They will also help explain how the playback is different between the versions of VLC, as to where the process went off the rails in 2.2.0 . There is also the possibility of a crappy video driver or CPU (if using integrated graphics). Drivers have an unfortunate tendency to be screwed up during updates, and the logs could indicate a screwed-up driver as well.

Updating GPU driver didn't help.

Motherboard: Gigabyte P55-USB3
Memory: 4GB DDR3
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.67GHz (Quad Core)
GPU: GeForce GT 240 512MB GDDDR5
OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

As I've written, videos are being played smoothly with older versions of VLC on the same machine.
