After Upgrading to VLC 2.2.0 opening a MKV file can take minutes to load the file. But when I go back to 2.1.5 its opening instantly.
The NAS share is mounted as a drive on my PC.
It’s like in the latest version it tries to open the whole file before starting to play it. Anyone else have this issue or is there a setting somewhere to enable the file to be viewed before it’s all downloaded.

The System is a 64Bit Windows 7 connecting to a Netagear Ready NAS NV+ over Gigabit nic.

+1. I'm having the exact same problem since moving to 2.2.0. Tried a clean install of Windows 8.1 x64 and issue persists.
Connection is to an SMB share on Windows 2012R2.
As OP pointed out, 2.1.5 works fine.
