VLC runtime error when attempting to open multiple media files

Postby thefowles1 » 13 Mar 2015 07:36

I receive the "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way." error every time when I select multiple media files (in this case, .mp3s) and hit enter to open them all at once.
I've searched around the forums for previous instances of this bug and have performed the following based on the results I found:
- I have VLC as the default program for audio files
- I have reset/deleted my settings (I have no plugins or extensions installed)
- I have reinstalled VLC player
- I have the most up-to-date C++ redistributable package installed

The only time I receive this error is when opening multiple files at once. I did see that a fix is in the works for 2.2.1, but I wanted to submit my situation in case it helped zero in on the issue.

I'm getting the same problem, pretty frustrating. I've made the same attempts at fixing this issue as you have, to no avail. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

This has been reported, I think. We're going to look at it.

I'm having this problem since about 2 releases and hoped that you can fix it with 2.2.1
But after installing the version today the error is still there.

Hi, installed VLC, saw this problem too. A few quick attempts showed that it worked except for context opening of *multiple* files/directories. I noticed multiple error windows for multiple files, so as a test, I unchecked the "single instance when opened from file manager" open in Preferences, to test whether this was a config problem, or a code/redist problem. (ie. was expecting single file and not queueing, but actually received multiple files as argument) The failed tests began succeeding by opening one instance of VLC per file, where is was crashing before, indicating config problem. I then opened registry, and found the "bad" contexthandlers' had "--no-playlist-enqueue" argument, and "good/working" contexthandlers had "--playlist-enqueue" argument. I did a search and replace of "--no-playlist-enqueue" with "--playlist-enqueue" in registry, and it is now fixed.

Have a nice day.

PS: Your "lost password" function (email me lost password) needs to be changed as well. It requires you to remember your username with your email address, ie if you remember *neither* username nor password, yer kinda screwed for that email. I had to find the old email on a backup disc, to recover password and post this. Thanks in advance.

It is still a problem with 2.2.1

Before installing 2.2.1 it never happened. After I downloaded 2.2.1 today and it started happening.

I FIXED (I THINK). IS VERY SIMPLE. GO TO ''TOOLS'' ABOVE, THEN ''PREFERENCES'', AND IN ''INTERFACE'' (YOU ARE THERE) LOOK DOWN FOR THE SECTION CALLED ''REPRODUCTION LIST AND INSTANCES'' AND THERE MAKE CLICK IN ALL THE OPTIONS LESS IN ''PAUSE REPRODUCTION WHEN MINIMIZED''
ES MÁGICO!!!!!!!!!!ES MÁGICOOOOOOO. I FIXED, IM A GENIUS, IM A --please stay polite-- NERD, BILL GATES WILL CONTRACT ME, MY NAME IS ALFREDO SABAGNI IM FROM ROSARIO, ARGENTINA.
