Help with disappearing bookmarks

I'm having trouble with one of the bookmark features in particular. When I store bookmarks for various videos on my laptop and then proceed to transfer them to either my cloud or an external hard drive and open the videos back up, all of my bookmarks are gone. I would greatly appreciate any advice or insight on the topic as it is directly pertinent to my work and studies. Thanks.

How do you store bookmarks? Do you use Media Library?

I simply follow these steps, sorry if I'm not providing adequate information. Playback -> Custom Bookmarks -> Manage -> Create. If there is another method that would alleviate my issue please let me know, as I am always open for new options.

You need to save the custom bookmarks:
Media > Save Playlist to File...
You can also edit bookmarks in the bookmarks manager to change their description (select bookmark > left-click > wait a second...) or you can edit saved playlist file in a text editor.
Media Library is a special playlist (ml.xspf), that is saved/loaded automatically in VLC: View > Playlist > Media Library
