"VLC 2.1.5 has stopped working"

On Windows 7 x64, I get this error from VLC every time I close it after playing any kind of video. VLC seems to work OK (touch wood!), but it craps out every time I close it. It doesn't seem to leave any processes running, so there's no problem in opening it again, but I figure it indicates some kind of problem.
I've tried uninstalling it, and re-installing from a fresh downloaded installable from this site, but that doesn't fix the problem.
Two questions:
1) Can anyone shed any light on this problem?
2) Is there any utility that does a complete uninstall of VLC, or a guide to help me do it manually, so I can do a completely fresh installation and see if that fixes the problem?
