2 webcams on the same pc: problem

Postby chaica » 14 Sep 2005 14:31

I've got 2 same webcams on my pc and vlc doesn't seem to do the differences in the box "open a capture device" -> video device name
I have two times "Logitech quickcam messenger".

This is weird because for audio device name I have "Logitech quickcam messenger" and "Logitech quickcam messenger #2"

If you have any idea, thx

vlc takes the enumerated device's texts from DirectX, so it is DirectX listing them that way.

You can choose either video device and it should work properly. Does it?

If not, then it is possibly in your driver installation of the cams. Or maybe you can just change the device names from directshow settings.

Sorry I was wrong explaining my situation. I want the 2 webcams work at the same time so in video device, I don't have the choice betweek two cams, I've only two times "Logitech quickcam messenger".
And if I attempt to launch one using the first "Logitech quickcam messenger" and launchs another vlc with the second "Logitech quickcam messenger", it doesn't work.

Ok I followed your way and modified the webcam names in Windows register base cause having modified names through configuration panel was uneffective.
Now it works with two webcams at the same time.

In fact I'm setting a simple webcam system in a datacenter. I put one pc with at least 2 webcams on it and broadcast the streams to the lan. Technicians will be able to know if someone is already on mission or not. But there are many possibilities for this kind of stuff.
