Folders open but won't play in 2.1.5

I'm using Windows 8 on a 64 bit laptop computer. My VLC version is 2.1.5 Rincewind. I have never had trouble open a video folder and playing all the media that was in it before. Now .. if I select Open Folder select my folder and press play .. The player just skips. I open the play list to see whats supposed to be playing and all I see is the folder NOT the videos in the folder. I'm not sure how to correct this. Now the only way to play a folder of media is to go to open multiple files select all the files in the folder add them to the playlist and then press play. But in doing that I can not skip said files if I want to. If I press forward to go to the next media file in the list I can't not go back to the file I just skipped. It's like it's not there. But if I add each file individually I do not have this problem. I do not know how to fix this. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciate. Thank you.

Any suggestions? I'm having the same problem. I have 8.1 64bit with VLC 2.1.5 and this option media/open folder worked just fine as recently as the other day, but tonight I'm having the same problem as you describe. The icon of a folder shows and the actual videos no longer load. It would be a real pain to load all of them individually as these are clips of a daily show I'm trying to watch in date order that spans over a decade. Never had a problem using the open folder option until tonight. About see if an uninstall/reinstall fixes it. If not, maybe I'll try going back to an older version of VLC. Only other thing that could have possibly changed on my system from when it worked fine to now is if Windows updated something that is now messing with something in VLC. idk

UPDATE: I just uninstalled 2.1.5 which was an auto update and downloaded 2.1.4 (64 bit) for my 8.1 64bit Inspiron 15 from FTP archive. The media/open folder option works fine again now. Not sure if I would have just uninstalled/reinstalled 2.1.5 if it would have also worked fine again or not. If anyone has any luck with fixing this error for that version, please post an update! I don't like not using latest stable versions, but for now I'm sticking with what works and that's 2.1.4.

Likewise in the 32 bit version. Also if I click on My Music, My Videos, My Pictures... it finds nothing

Got the same problem with mp3 files.

I can add folders, but I can't open or play them. Just installed 2.1.4 and got the same problem as in 2.1.5.
I completly uninstalled VLC and then reinstalled it.
