What is "VlC web plugin needs your permission to run" about?

For the first time in my years using the media player I'm getting interrupted when attempting lo look at a video by a blank screen with a logo in the center and a message underneath saying, " VLC web plugin needs your permission to run". I don't know why this is now occurring. I'm using a Chrome browser and i don't have a VLC plugin that I'm aware of or can locate in the settings.
Can anyone help me with this?
