HELP PLEASE - Video freezes, but audio continues....

Hi,
please can anyone help - I'm trying to play an avi file. After 10 seconds the video freezes, although the audio continues. When i first open the file, i do get a message saying "Broken or missing index file". I have had this message a couple of times before, for other avi files, but normally when i play them, the video will work. This time i cannot get it to work. (I have tried the repair option already)

I'm using vs 2.1.3 of the VLC player.

I'm using Windows Vista.

Have set the verbosity to 2 and got a long list in messages.... and got some error warnings:

avi warning: cannot find idx1 chunk, no index defined
avi warning: broken or missing index, 'seek' will be approximative or will exhibit strange behavior
dxva2.lo error: DxFindVideoServiceConversion failed
main warning: playback too late (75750): up-sampling
main warning: playback too early (-40063): down-sampling

(should i post the full list here?)

Any ideas as to how to fix it would be most appreciated. Thanks a lot.

It happened to me and a bunch of people too. I close the program then open it with Media Player Classic. The problem seems to start after Windows did some software update. I hope they fix it soon.

To close the VLC; open Start Task Manager > Process > right click on "vlc.exe" > End Process
