Japanese subtitles not working

Postby egoplant » 23 Mar 2014 23:19

They just appear as boxes.

I have Japanese Windows 7 installed.
I've tried changing "text rendering module" to "Freetype2 font renderer".
I've tried changing encoding to UTF-8 Universal.
I've tried changing encoding to SHIFT-JIS.
I've tried changing the font to a Japanese font.

I don't know what else to try. The subtitles work in literally every other player I've use them with.

If they as question marks or as mojibake gibberish, you have not selected the right encoding. If they appear as squares, you have selected a font without the glyphs.

Save correct settings and restart VLC.

For some reason the majority of my Japanese fonts weren't working. I found one that worked though. There is a strange bug though, for some of the lines part of the last character on the right gets cut off and starts to clip through on the left. Any idea what it could be?
