Double picture ?

Many mp4 videos are playing back double -- two somewhat squished pictures on the screen.

The codec is Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Resolution: 640x360
Frame rate: 29.970029
Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV

I have windows 8.1 and vlc 2.1.2

Any ideas?

I noticed that same thing on several files I downloaded....after looking more carefully at the file descriptions, I found that those files were 3D versions of the movie.
