Totally new to ipaq, i'm running Pocket PC2003/PXA prcessor.

Which version of VLC do i need to work on the above?

and which plugins/codecs do I need?

A BIG THANK YOU TO VLC

I have been using VLC (pc versions) for more than 2 years, for viewing .ts streams from my Dreambox to PC via a router, and VLC is wicked.

I could really do with a point in the right direction, read lost of posts, tried different versions, can't view a thing.

Regards

Found it:

ROM Date : 09/02/04
ROM Revision : 1.00.09 ENG
OS Version : Windows CE 4.21
Bootloader Version : 1.01
Processor Type : PXA270

If anyone could tell me which version of VLC I should be using, even if its still in developement.

I've found a copy of VLC called "VLC-PPC2003", I've copied it to my CF storage card on my Hx4700 Ipaq and when I run VLC the "About" info says its "VLC media player 0.7.0 (WinCE interface).

I have copied an AVI movie file to CF storage card and this plays fine.

1) what do I need to play a *.ts file type movie, from CF storage?

2) why do the preferences of VLC keep resetting back to default?

Thanks m8s

Why do i get "this is not an *hmm* program when i try to start vlc on my ipaq,,.. I have tried all mentiond programs

Judging from my experience so far, to play a file it must be a WMV1 or 2 file. So I would guess that you need to transcode the .ts file to a WMV1 or 2 file for playing.

I say again. It has been my experience that no codecs work on the pocket pc except the WMV1 and 2. I am attempting to recompile and try other codecs (mjpeg for me). I just don't think the version you and I have supports any other file types. Try transcoding the mp4 file to WMV1 or 2 and them stream it. I seriously suggest you try this as I am trying to help you and you are not trying to accept it. Admittedly, I am no expert on this but I don't think based on responses to questions I have had, that there are any or they are too busy to answer. Good Luck.

@DanBrwn

thanks for your advice, I was not trying to avoid the advice that you have given. thanks m8.

I have converted mp4 file to WMV1, copied to PocketPC and replayed.

I have not tried transcoding the mp4 file to WMV1 or 2 and then streaming them, as this would mean recording them on Dreambox satellite hard drive, then FTPing the video files to PC, then converting then to WMV1 or 2, then streaming them to PocketPC.

The Dreambox satellite is receiving over 10,000 TV channels from over 30 satellites around the whole.

I can use the PocketPC to change channel/satellite, and find the IP address of the clearing channel.

What could be better than using a PocketPC and VLC to view any one of these channels within wi-fi range by streaming direct without any manual conversion on the PC.

What i was hoping for was a pointer, ie what do the errors in messages mean.

Thanks DanBrwn I hope that we both crack it !!!!

Cheers

Im with you now. From what I can see, you may either compile the drivers (dll's) within the application or leave them within the plugins directory. I think that whoever has compiled the pocket pc version has done a minimal set of drivers (WMV1,WMV2) and compiled them statically into the executable, hence the inability to support other codecs. I plan, when I can figure out how, to compile for some of the other codecs, specifically MJPEG. If I am successful Ill post. Thanks

Hi All

Getting nearer

Just downlaoded the lastest nightly build "vlc-0.8.4-test1-20051012-0130-wince"

I can now view a .TS file format from my Dreambox Satellite via wireless router to my hx4700 PDA.

Although I seem to have a problem with speed and buffering, as viewing a movie is a bit pixelated and jumpy at times.

The strange thing is; I still can't play a prerecorded TS file format movie direct from my SD or CF storage card, something still a miss somewhere.

Any ideas m8s ??????

Cheers

Dreambox -> PPC

Hi T9!

This would really be cool. I own a dreambox now for quite some time and tried different images on the DB. I already use a laptop to stream via wlan but the ppc vlc solution would be great. I´ll try the latest vlc and let you know if it works for me - the last time I tried it (a few months back) I just got a screenshow of a few pics.

My conclusion back than was: the ppc is to weak to downscale the 720x576 pixels to 640x480 (I have a Dell X50v) - but I´ll give it a try now.

Greetings,
Schim

Can't see any video with vlc-0.8.5 on hx4700 (WinCE)

Hi,
I'm using a hx4700 iPaq with a nightly build of VLC (vlc-0.8.5-svn-20051121-0130-wince.zip) and I'm trying to receive a network stream from a Windows computer. I tried to stream wmv, mp4, mp2, mjpeg, well almost every possibilities from the VLC application and the best I've been able to receive is the sound only. There is no way I could see the video on the iPaq. I also tried to create some wmv and mp4 files and transfer them on the iPaq with a CF card but it does the same result... sound only. I have tried very small wmv files (160x120, 5fps, 24kbps sound) and the result is still laggy sound with no video.
I would really appreciate if someone could help me...
Thank you

Help with iPAQ 6315

I am having trouble with VLC. I have VLC-PPC2003 and it loads, but I can't get any sound from anything played from my my iPAQ. I have tried the newer nightly builds and cannot even get those to run.

I am using PPC 2003 and know that there are/have been different versions that work on the iPAQ phone.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated :)

Try an old version, latest build don't work at all even if they succsefully build with the cross tools. I would recommend for pocketpc to use the TCPMP, core pocket media player or something like that. (check http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about)
