Problem Opening Files From Windows Explorer

I'm experience a really annoying issue where, when I try to open up a video file (haven't tried other file types) from Windows Explorer either via double click or right click -> open with -> vlc media player, VLC will not open up and begin to play the file. This has been going on for a while so I can't really point out a specific version I noticed it start on. A few noteworthy things: When I try to open it, a vlc.exe process does open up (I can see it in the process manager) but the memory usage is smaller than normal (about 1/5) and I don't actually see any thing. Also, I can open VLC normally from the shortcut and then click add file and browse to my file (or drag and drop it in) and everything works fine. But opening from Windows Explorer is much more convenient. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (including clearing preferences and cache) and that didn't seem to help at all. Help would be greatly appreciated :)

If you have the preferences and the cache cleared, then you probably have a problem with Windows.

Any idea what in Windows could be causing behavior like that?

I had the exact same problem, pain in the ass.

However I rolled back to 2.0.8 and it seems to have fixed it,

good luck.
