A video of a lecture has the lecturer speaking, and a background track of music playing. Is there any way to disable the background music track?
Thanks

I can only imagine how horrible that must be! What were the producers thinking!

If it were me I would open it in a video editor where the individual audio tracks could be deleted and the video rendered again. I don't know if the video editor that comes with Windows is up to the job it always used to crash with me. So I bought videostudio4 by corel quite cheap on amazon, when version 5 was just being promoted.

How many audio streams has your video?

Two tracks.
The lecturer is the main track.
The background music track is a distraction.

In the first dialog box according to the menu selection, "Convert / Save ..." do not only chosen the file to convert. In the lower part of this dialog box by selecting the option "Show more options" the display area show expanded and (Edit options).

In the last text box there by default registered parameter: After "file-caching=300" add the parameter ":audio-track-id=x". x is the audio-track.id.

Between these two parameters, must be inserted exactly one space.

VLC only plays one track by default, and it is really hard to convince it to play more than one at a time. So this request is weird...

The video comes like that. There is a lecturer, and there is this music track playing in the background which is obviously not part of the lecture. Meaning there isn't a music playing in the presence of the lecturer. Therefore it's seems to be a second track, and I'm wondering if Videolan is actually playing two tracks, and therefore one can be disabled, or whether they are inseparable.
I appreciate any help you have for this.

Make in the playlist a right click on your video and select the context menu option "information ..."

In the dialog "Media Information" select the tab "codec".

You can now see if there are one or two strams of type "audio".

You can use the param equalizer to fix that.

Kodela - thanks. Your answer was helpful. There were no other streams in the codec window so i guess the background audio track is combined with the lecturer track.
Jean-Baptiste Kempf - what is a param equalizer?
Thanks for all your comments and help.
