Windows 8 media file issues

I am having trouble with most media files on my new laptop. These files play fine on my other computer, which runs Windows 7, but not on my machine with Windows 8. The picture will randomly freeze for 2-6 seconds, while the audio will continue normally. When the picture unfreezes it catches up and resyncs with the audio. Any recommendations for fixing this problem? It has happened with mp4, mkv, yify file types, as well as from blue ray. Many thanks!

Bump - anything would help. I've looked at the faq but this problem is not addressed.

I am having this problem as well, I have Windows 8.1, the renderer is using Intel HD 4000 graphics... The video frame will freeze for about 2 seconds but the sound will continue as normal.... It seems to happen at random but usually happens after a few minutes or so of playing the video.
Here is some info from the message logs from when the problem occured:

I think I may have figured out a solution (fingers crossed), I updated my Intel Rapid Storage Management drivers with the latest one and the problem seems to have gone away! For now atleast!
