CANNOT play DVD's on VLC 2.1.2 with Win7 64

Postby lumzi23 » 19 Dec 2013 16:59

I can't DVD'd on the 64bit version of VLC (Sorry about the thread title error).

I get this error

"Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "D:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:/'. Check the log for details."

I have checked around the site and forums for a specific solution but didn't find any that made sense to me. Please help.

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:/'. Check the log for details.

Same problem - also tried the 32 bit version on my win7 64 Got this message:

Playback failure:
VLC cannot set the DVD's title. It possibly cannot decrypt the entire disc.

I have just upgraded to win7 from xp pro - the win 7 media player plays the disks fine !

Update your video drivers
Reinstall VLC 32bits while deleting preferences and cache
Delete %appdata%/.dvdcss folder

Ditto on the DVD not playing issue. I accidently posted my issue in the Mac forum, maybe a mod can move it here?

Update your video drivers
Reinstall VLC 32bits while deleting preferences and cache
Delete %appdata%/.dvdcss folder
So I can't use the the 64bits version?

Edit: The 32bit version worked.

Hello,

I do have the exact same issue. Happens on several machines running Win7 64. The graphics drivers are recent. Opening the DVD via "open folder" works just fine, opening it as a DVD media does result in the error aforementioned.
It seems this happens after the update to V 2.1.2.

I can confirm that I ran into this problem on two different laptops (Windows 7 and Windows 8). VLC 2.1.2 64-bit would not open a DVD I had recorded. The problem was resolved by switching to 2.1.2 32-bit.

See my earlier post. I was playing a commercial DVD with the previous VLC version without problems. I received an update advisory. When I updated, I obtained Version: 2.1.2 Rincewind and I obtained the following problem..... I could not locate the log.

Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "D:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:/'. Check the log for details.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64 Bit)

EDIT: Deleting the program, Clearing the VLC Cache and preferences, and installing the 32-bit version of VLC 2.1.2 was a workaround for me. Are there plans to resolve this problem for the 64-bit version?

Use 32bits version. We'll fix for 2.1.3
