on Xp - 2.1.1 plays h264 garbled video, ok audio

I just upgraded from 2.0.8 which worked ok.

I'm on Win XP Pro - 32 bit.

Codec Videc H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (Part 10) (avc1) 1280 x 720

The video plays and I see a large number of rectangles or long thin strips that contain recognizable parts of the video (at least I can see the close buttons for a window in one of the scrips).

But, it's like the strips are not ordered correctly, as the image is unrecognizable as a video.

The audio (MPEG AAC ) plays fine.

BTW - this is for ALL of my mp4 video files, not just a single problematic file. Even h.264 files from Camtasia can't be played.

I can't reproduce the issue.

Try another video output module:
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... _output.3F

And/or disable/enable GPU acceleration:
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... age_errors

You can also try to enable or disable some video options such as Overlay and/or Hardware YUV -> RGB conversions.

I have the same OS and get a screen with a B&W pattern, similar to a test pattern, that does nothing and only get the audio.
I had to change the video output from "Automatic" to something else (Windows, DirectX, etc.) before getting the video to play. This didn't happen before I did the upgrade.

Disabling acceleration didn't do anything (using old ATI X300 video card).

I changed Video ->Output module to DirectX from automatic and can now see the videos.

However, if I'm in full screen mode, the small dialog that pops up at the bottom showing the timeline position, etc. flickers like crazy.

The videos do seem to play ok though.

Can you share your logs when it's broken?

I changed 2.1.1 back from DirectX to Automatic and set Messages verbosity to 2(debug).

Here's what I get:

direct3d debug: Created 96x96 texture for OSD
main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor
main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 40 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 6 ms)
main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 39 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 6 ms)
main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 38 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 4 ms)
direct3d debug: Created 96x96 texture for OSD
main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor

I tried creating a log file as outlined in http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/vlc- ... gging.html, gave it 255 verbosity (as -1 gave me nothing), and still got nothing in the log file, didn't even get created?

OK. Weird.

Also does the same in 2.1.2.

It's an old box that I use rather than take a week off to setup a new box and deal with the older programs that might not work on Win7-64.

I have several win7-64 boxes, and they have no issues with VLC and 2.1.2 seems to work fine on them.

BTW - of the non-automatic choices, which might work the best? I've tried DirectX and Windows GDI and they both seem to work.

DirectX should be the default on XP. So there is an issue here.
