Convert mp4 to mp3

Postby Matx » 10 Nov 2013 15:39

Hi
I've a problem when I want to convert a mp4 to a mp3, when I change the bitrate or the sampling frequency (I've chosen the "Audio - mp3" profile), I can't save my file into mp3 but only into .raw, .ps, .ts, etc... according to the method of encapsulation. Even if I type "file.mp3" to the destination file.

I remember that I've already done the same convertion with a older version of VLC (but which?) and it worked fine.
Have you an  to resolve this problem?

Thank a lot!

Configuration: W7 (64 bits), VLC v2.1.0 (32 bits, same problem with the 64 bits version)

Use RAW encapsulation (no encapsulation), then rename file.raw to file.mp3?

why are VideoLAN released version 2.1.0, although this version includes so many problems?

Because people did not report the problems during the beta tests.

No fix in 2.1.2, as far as I can tell. When I attempt to convert an MP4 video to MP3 audio, I only get the option of outputting .raw files. There is apparently no way to produce an MP3. I have done this successfully before.

Please fix this one. Thanks!

Use a nightly build, in the mean time :)

You can use WAV encapsulation—it's audio only—but you'll still need to convert from .WAV to .MP3 in another app.

I still cannot convert... says "steaming" with nothing happening.

Also, it says "New Update Available", reports an older version & no update happening with latest win64 nightly build installed.

I'm using 2.1.3 and it works... once... every time you reset preferences... (https://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:ResetPrefs/)

*sigh*

I'm having the same (I think) problem with 2.1.5.

I can convert an mp4 to raw format, just by clicking on "Dump raw input", but I can't convert either the mp4 or the raw to mp3. After I select "Audio - MP3" for the profile and then the output filename/location, when I click "Start" the operation appears to complete instantaneously, but the output file is empty.

All I am trying to do is to achieve a smaller file size than the mp4. It is about 27 MB for a 27 minute audio. I'm not concerned about the quality - so long as it is reasonably audible - it is all speech. I don't know much about these formats, so I was just experimenting with trying to convert to something that looked more tailor-made for audio. The only successful conversion I've achieved so far is to the raw format and that, not surprisingly, is precisely the same size as the mp4.

Of course I can always zip the mp4, but I would have thought that there was some suitable native audio format - even if it was lossy, that would avoid having to unzip it to play.

Any advice gratefully received.
