port opening

Postby drongo22 » 14 Aug 2005 17:57

Hi there, can anybody tell me which ports need to be opened on my router so I can stream live TV from my home to work? I have a TV card and can broadcast the stream over my lan with no problems, the problem I get is trying to broadcast my steam to the internet using udp.

it will depend on which port you are doing the stream.

default is 1234 if I'm not mistaken, so on your router you will want to open port 1234 to be able to get to your home computer from the internet side.

Thanks for reply, is there any way of testing without going to a PC thats NOT on my network to test whether my steam is broadcasting to the 'net?

maybe if you get crazy with some kind of port proxying or nat settings or something.. because the port will be the same between both points, so as soon as you go outside your router(which you'd need to do to check it from the internet side) and try to come back in, then you have 2 machines(or even just the same machine but different processes) trying to use the same port.

do you do irc? you can pop into irc.freenode.net/videolan and get someone to check it out.. ;)
