VLC Player 2.1 stream undesired looping
Posted: 01 Nov 2013 10:20
by sdy7
Hi all
I'm using my VLC player to listen to web radio. After upgrade to 2.1 I experience a looping in the stream. It plays well for a while and eventually it goes into a loop where it repeats a segment of a couple of seconds indefinitely until I stop and start. It happens with all radio stations I have tried. I also tried to play an online track in HLS format. Instead of playing to the end and stop, it repeats the last couple of seconds indefinitely.
Example of a radio:
http://live-icy.gss.dr.dk:8000/A/A29H.mp3
Does anyone else experience this?
cheers
Soren

Met too! I'm now using 2.1.3 and it still does it. Videolan needs to fix this bug! I've had to take the drastic step of using MS Media Player to play radio. I might mention that I'm accessing the radio stream using this .m3u file: kuaz128.mp3.m3u. My OS is Windows 7. It plays normally for many minutes, then, seemingly at random, it begins to replay several seconds of the broadcast, and continues repeating forever.

To help you, we need
messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure
before you start the playback to:
![](https://i.imgur.com/H7ILV2l.png)
- Open: Tools -> Messages.
- Set Verbosity to 2
- Start playback to reproduce your issue
- Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
- Then paste the full resulting log here between
and
(or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your
Operating System and provide the
VLC media player version.

Simulation in lan:
1) 2 PC (Server, Client) connected through a lan cable via switch(!)
2) Stream-server is running by command (in my example):
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe dshow:// :dshow-vdev=none :dshow-adev="Delta 1010LT 1/2" :live-caching=300 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=none,acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{mux=raw,dst=:8080/} :no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :sout-keep
3) Client:
Code: Select all
vlc.exe http://10.0.0.4:8080 :http-caching=300 :http-reconnect :ipv4-timeout=700 http://some.next.url.org:4586 :http-caching=300 :http-reconnect :ipv4-timeout=700 --no-repeat --loop
there (10.0.0.4 - is our stream-server from step 2; some.next.url.org - is emergency url which will be played if primary disconnected)
4) simulate the disconnection - unplug the lan cable from Server(!) for 10-20 seconds and connect it back.
5) We have loop
May be somebody know how to make jump to next track on failure at stream-server?
Thanks!

I have the same problem. VLC 2.1.3 on Win7 and Avast antivirus. I stream
http://broadcast.wnrn.org:8000/wnrn.mp3
Looking at the messages, i get couple down-sampling messages and then it loops. I've had the loop occur after a minute, and after few hours. It does not seem to be related to how long i've been streaming.
When it loops, i stop the streaming and I get 2 error messages
Code: Select all
main error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late (pts_delay increased to 1000 ms)
main error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called
When i stop the streaming before it goes into the loop, i do not see these error messages.
I also see this error when i start the stream
Code: Select all
mpgatofixed32 error: libmad error: Huffman data overrun
The entire messages screen. Contains 2 stopping loops, and 1 normal stops.
Code: Select all

Re: VLC Player 2.1 stream undesired looping

Hi -
I was hoping that a new release of VLC would fix this erroneous looping bug, but alas, installing v2.1.5 yesterday did not help. This is a Win 8.1 platform running Firefox 31.0. All s/w is running the most recent
released revs, and everything is fully patched. I tried to listen to the live streaming podcast of Coast To Coast AM at coasttocoastam.com. All was fine for the first 30-45 mins, but then the looping started, with
the last 2-3 mins looping over and over again endlessly (just like in VLC v2.1.3). The fix is to disable the VLC Plugin in FF, and revert to using WMP, which works just fine. I've no way of telling if the FF Plugin was
updated, or not, and I can't seem to find a change log to check and see if this bug was even supposed to have been fixed in VLC. Ah well ...
/kim

I use VLC as a firefox plugin to stream audio (internet radio) and the looping thing is pretty maddening.
What I've arrived at over the last year or so is that (in my case) it seems to be caused by dropped connections, even momentary server interruptions.
When HTML flash players or WMPlayer experience a dropped connection, they just stop or attempt to buffer, but VLC reverts to it's receive-buffer start and plays it over (and over), thus looping.
At least something along those lines appears to be happening.
If any devs run accross this post, maybe they could verify this behavior by streaming a radio station and pulling the cat5 cable on their internet connection (or killing their wifi) to simulate a drop.
As for the fix, I'd just hazard a guess that maybe VLC shouldn't use it's receive-buffer directly, but pass it's contents to an ancillary buffer that actually renders the stream to the user, if the primary buffer doesn't fill, ping the stream-host to see if it's still reachable, if not, stop rendering (don't loop) and maybe attempt a reconnect.
Something like that.
Devs?

Hello all.
I think i have same loop problem.
I am exporting streaming audio using VLC in one pc (PC_TX).
I am emitting a simple .mp3 file through my home lan.
In another pc (PC_RX) i use the VLC as a client in order to read audio from lan (port 6707) (rtp://@:6707).
At the beggining everything works fine and you can listen to the audio in PC_TX with no problem.
But, when you stop playing in the PC_TX (stop button) suddenly the PC_RX starts in a loop and repeats (until infinite) the last 18 seconds (more or less) of audio, even the PC_TX is sending nothing through lan.
I have the same problem if i use a Java application using the libray vlcj in the PC_RX (
www.capricasoftware.co.uk/vlcj/) I use AudioMediaPlayerComponent class.
Really this was my first test and i thought it was a problem in my Java program, until i tested directly with the vlc application in the PC_RX with same bad result.
I have debugged even the MediaPlayerEventListener in order to listen to the events and try to see what happen when loop starts but...nothing strange appears and the sound continues for ever.
I have changed the source of audio using one audio converter instead PC_TX running vlc (
http://www.barix.com/es/productos/famil ... cicom-100/) with the same result.
What i try to do is to put audio from one equipment in lan (connected to the annuncicom) and listen remotely using a Java program (vlcj based).
It seems that if the vlc client detects some lose in lan data flow it starts automatically playing again the last 15-20 seconds of audio.
And this is a big problem for me.
I hope that somebody can give me some idea.
Thanks a lot.
Angel Otero.

Hi,
Same problem here. I did mange to stop the loop happening in Windows XP and 7 both x86 an x64. Change the player audio driver from DirectSound to WavOut. It now goes quiet on stream loss.
However, I would like VLC to stop if the stream dies. I can then make a nice little batch script to start it back up again after 10 seconds or so.
It seems that maybe a ShoutCast messge got sent to VLC once in our radio stream testing, and VLC just stopped, and had to be manually engaged to 'play' again.

Try 2.2.0 and default output.

I'm tired of this nonsense.
I'm switching to another media player and recommending that everyone else also avoid the VLC Player.
I'll check back with the VLC Player in a few years and and maybe it will have been fixed. Since the problem has been ongoing and has existed through multiple releases, I have no expectation that it will be fixed anytime soon.

What?
You posted 2 post on this forum, one of which is totally unrelated to this issue, where you already claimed you were dropping VLC...
This issue has appeared on some audio drivers on Windows, only on 2.1.x and was fixed in 2.2.0, the next major version, ( with other audio issues for Windows)...
So, what's your problem?
