Hi folks,

I wonder if anyone else has had this issue? I've downloaded VLC 2.1.0 after the Windows 8.1 update, and a curious thing is going on. VLC will run, but it opens it's own command line window, in which the only thing I can do is type "help", and all of the controls are then displayed in that window. However, the listed keyboard controls don't work. The player will play and pause (I opened it by clicking on a video in my file I wished to play), but won't stop, FF or REW, won't close. Player interface controls effectively not working.Can only get it to close by shutting down the command line window.

Thoughts?

VLC 2.1 has been running smoothly without the issues you describe for me on Windows 8.1. I'd try clearing your preferences and/or reinstalling if you haven't already.

it will not even send information on crash suggesting there was an error transferring the data to the ftp server

I am also seeing the same issue as lmlm.

I have updated to Windows 8.1, uninstalled VLC 2.0.8, and cleared my preferences. Following a reboot, I have installed VLC 2.1.0.

When attempting to play a file, or open VLC it crashes, and then fails to send the crash report.

There was another post here by someone (Ottoman) having crash problems with the 64 bit and not the 32 bit. That hasn't been answered yet, but it makes me wonder if you are using 64 bit or 32 bit? Maybe the problem is with the 64 bit; I'm eagerly awaiting a reply to reassure me (or instruct me) as to running VLC in 64 bit with 8.1, as I will be getting a new Win8 comuter (64 bit) next week. Tried both VLC 2.1.0 32 bit, and 64 bit versions. I am on 64 bit machine.

Just tried the latest nightly build VLC 2.2.0, and also seeing the the same issues. Found here http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/last/

There is no data been provided in the crashdump file either.

although audio files are working with vlc...

i cant run any video file

No problems here with 8.1 and vlc, it's mostly a problem with your computer. Do a fresh install of 8.1, or updating your graphics drivers maybe. Also delete your config files C:\Users\%username%\Application Data\vlc\

Also look at vlcs command line options vlc--help. For example try something like:

vlc --ignore-config
vlc --reset-config

My problem was with my switchable graphics. VLC was under the High performance preset in the catalyst control center so i switched it to Power Saving preset and it worked. My laptop has a Radeon HD 7670M and an Intel HD graphics 4000. Hope this helps
