No picture, only sound

Postby johngrey » 15 Oct 2013 09:25

I am using the latest VLC player and Win 7 ulti.
Especially since the last update I am having more and more files that will no longer play correctly on VLC player.
They will however play normal on "FLV and Media Player".

I get recorded TV programs from the internet and I do cut off the part before the beginning and and the part after of the actual program itself from those videos with Avidemux, but I have always done that and until a short while ago VLC never had a problem with that...

What is going on?

Thanks, JG

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

Messages log

Postby johngrey » 21 Oct 2013 10:09

Hello, and thank you,

I tried to uplaod a video, but the "Videolan File uploader" does not react when I click on upload, maybe because there is a field that asks for a track ticket, which I neither have, nor do I know what it is.
EmbedUpload asks for my website (which I do not have) and also an e-mail, where to send the link, what would that be?

Here is the log, seems all of it did fit

I tried to uplaod a video, but the "Videolan File uploader" does not react when I click on upload, maybe because there is a field that asks for a track ticket, which I neither have, nor do I know what it is.
Works fine for me, just be patient you will be prompted when it's done.
EmbedUpload asks for my website (which I do not have) and also an e-mail, where to send the link, what would that be?
No, it doesn't, just use the default settings.
You can also use Zippyshare.com.
Here is the log, seems all of it did fit
Sorry but I asked for the full log and this one is missing parts especially the beginning.

You are of course right, I did not paste the video in VLC before getting the Log. Now, that I did, I keep getting millions and millions of lines:

"avodec warning: cannot decode one frame" and then in brackets the frame size, between 2000 and 10.000 frames each... it will obviously take a while if it mentions every frame... So I made a screenshot, where there are few lines which tell different things. I uploaded the picture under the name VLC1 on VideoLAN File Uploader successfully, and right now the video itself is also uploading, in the Description window it is called "on VLC non-working video", this has not finished uploading yet...

Is that good enough? Or should I still mail the complete log. If it checks every single frame, there might be hours of it....

Once again we need the full log AND a sample.

Please, do not take this as an insult, I appreciate VLC and your help, but this is just the usual bs which I am really pissed off with. There are constant updates on all kinds of software, that bring new "improvements". Things that no one needs, and things that one needs stop working. Worst offender is of course Firefox....

I have simply re-installed VLC Version 2.0.0 and everything works perfectly again....

Until something else is not working, and you'll need a new version... Seriously, video formats are very numerous.
