Hi,

i am trying to get passthrough via SPDIF to work with vlc for years now from version 0.8-something to the latest 2.2.0-git. All i want is vlc to NOT touch AC3 and DTS streams at all!

I am running Windows XP SP2 X64, my soundcard is a weird onboard VIA-something hooked up via optical cable to my ac3 and dts-capable receiver.

"use SPDIF when available" is ticked, output set to "Direct X", and the directx module is set to my soundcard.

All i get is stereo combined with some LFE.

I tried every possible configuration, microsoft sound mapper, float32 on/off, waveout, defaults, disabled resampling. I am completely out of ideas and starting to hate vlc even more.

As a sidenote: Passthrough is working fine with XBMC, out of the box.

where have you found "use SPDIF when available" in 2.1.0? It dissapeared for me while updating 2.0.8 -> 2.1.0.

the option is only available when viewing the options-dialog in "advanced view" and the output is set to "Direct X"

Thanks for the help. Just confirmed that it is on for me and I don't get the a/52 over S/PDIF option which I used to have before in the device selection menu (I believe you have the same problem), so there are two of us now.

I want to second this, DTS output over SPDIF to my AMP worked fine in 2.0.8 upgraded to 2.1.0 and the option is gone and all I get is PCM audio. I even set it to DirectX output and "use SPDIF when available" and it still doesn't work. I uninstalled 2.1.0 and back to 2.0.8 and it works just fine again.

Small note to help anyone else that cant get a/52 over SPDIF out to work in 2.0.8 for this to work before you start VLC you must have Dolby Digital or DTS checked in the supported formats in the sound cards digital output properties.

Thanks for getting back to me, Yes it is broken, and I love VLC so I cant wait for it to be fixed.
However my ticket I opened is still marked as closed/invalid, I don't know how you guys work exactly so does it need to be marked reopened or open for the problem to get fixed or was another ticket created for the problem or will someone magically just know it needs to be fixed ?

It seems that feature is broken, the best way to fix the problem is to downgrade to 2.0.8 until they get it fixed.

As for it getting fixed I am still waiting to hear from Jean-Baptiste Kempf on if my ticket needs to be reopened or what, not sure how that works.

Ok, we'll just going to have to wait and see then.

I will be the 5th person in this thread to confirm this bug. I have it on two completely different hardware setups (computers, audio receivers) and have spent a couple of hours to try to get it to work to no avail. I just went back to 2.0.8 on one of them and it worked right away. Will do the same on the other next week.

@Chris777 - I hope you manage to get the bug reopened. If not maybe you could try to send JB a private message here...

They did actually open the ticket and then marked it as fixed/closed so that's progress, and put it as part of the 2.2 Bugs? Again I am not sure how their ticket and VLC version releases work, but on their roadmap it list 2.2 as coming out in 4 months, so does that mean this fix wont be out until then? I tested both the nightly 2.1.1 and what was marked latest as 2.2 and both were still broken. Maybe someone else here knows how that works better and can let us know?

I have the same problem here. Was confused it didn't work anymore so after a few days I tried to get the old 2.0.8 version and it all worked again.
So it's a bug?
I hope that's gonna be fixed soon.

same problem for me, with spdif or hdmi no passthrought, i try a nightly vlc-2.1.1-20131018-0203-win32 but same result

i'm back to vlc 2.0.8 and it's work fine

I also tried the Oct 20th, 2013 nightly and it still outputs stereo.
