Version 2.0.8 crashes immediately

I have used VLC for years and when I updated to Vers 2.0.8. I try to open it and it immediately pops up with a message that it had crashed and do I want to send a bug report?. I uninstall it and install 2.0.0 and it works fine. Re-install 2.0.8 and again same thing happens and it will not work - have done this more than half a dozen times - does anyone have an explanation or suggestion or should I just stick with 2.0.0 and wait for a newer version? (I'm usually using mp4 files)

First reset the preferences, then reinstall VLC.:

You may also want to try VLC 2.1.0-rc2.
