Firefox plugin misnamed

Why does the Firefox plugin of the latest version of VLC's XPI, which is labeled here as "2.08.xpi", actually show up as version 2.06 after installing in the latest version of Firefox?

I had the same question and found the answer in a thread below titled Web Plugin 2.0.8 Not Installing Firefox - posted by SevenFactors on Aug 16, 2013.
