Terrible VLC Bugs!

Hello.

I'm a huge fan of VLC, however, there are three things that are driving me crazy!

1. MAJOR BUG: The first problem is having to set the brightness almost every new video that is queued/opened. Sometimes the brightness is applied, sometimes not. This should be very simple to fix.

2. MAJOR BUG: The second problem is that VLC always disables the screen saver (even if paused or finished playing). Screen burn is possible because of this!

3. ANNOYING BUG: Right clicking and selecting "Open Folder Location" doesn't work with UNC paths.

These are serious problems!

Can't someone fix these major problems or prioritize these? I reported both of these bugs AGES ago and these are still not fixed.

So, you got your answers.

For #5533:

Won't be able to temp fix as QDesktopServices::openUrl() can't handle the QUrl() separators, which are non native on windows.

Can't the Windows #Win32 build be patched to call ShellExecute with the folder instead of calling QDesktopServices::openUrl() to fix this? This would be a "temp fix" until QT is updated.

For #8267/#7955:
Priority has been changed to "severe" so I believe this should be fixed soon. Thanks.

For #3724:
There is no feed back and this bug is set to "normal". I believe this should be set to severe also as it could permanently damage monitors. I got a fright when I came back and my LCD had the same picture on the screen since the night before. Luckily it didn't permanently damage my screen, but it could have. Screen burn is a major issue! Can you re-prioritize this to "severe" please?

Bug priorities are utterly meaningless. Really, the only thing they do is change the colour of the bug in search lists.

Increasing bug priorities does not magically spawn volunteers to fix them.

Aren't there a pool of developers who focus on the most urgent issues of VLC?

What's the point of having priorities if they not going to be used?

On this one i would say that it's not a bug it's a feature. Paused video is still "playing" technically, so the screen saver should not activate.
I reported both of these bugs AGES ago and these are still not fixed.
Also, there is no warranty regarding any timeframe of resolution for any particular bug report or feature request.
If you need timely/professional support, you will need to fix the problem yourself, or hire a consultant.

Guess I'll fix the problems myself. Reported the one problem over 6 months ago.

Fun times.

And who would pay them (considering that the player is given away)? Of course, not.
What's the point of having priorities if they not going to be used?
There is no point. It's just imposed by Trac.

Believed VLC was being worked on constantly. Just every update for the last six months didn't seem to change anything.

The problems are listed are major problems and have and are working in Windows Media Player already, piece of crap that WMP is. Really thought these bugs would be ironed out by now. Oh well.

What about you actually read the links and check that 6181 is already fixed?

Hi. I haven't seen #6181 yet. Will test out 2.1.0 and see if it's fixed. That was the most annoying problem.

Thanks for letting me know!
