How to display DVB subtitles in a WTV file

I have a variety of standard-def WTV files recorded by Windows Media Centre (Windows 7) from various UK broadcasters. How do I display subtitles? I think I've enabled subtitles but no text overlay appears.
It seems to be a bug when reading WTV files, because if I display a TS file which is generated from the WTV file, subtitles are displayed fine.
I'm using V2.0.7 of VLC.
VLC's Video | Subtitles Track is displaying the existence of "Track 1 - English" and Tools | Codec Information shows 3 streams:
0=Audio (MPEG 1/2/3, Stereo, 48 kHz, 256 kb/s)
1=Subtitle (DVB Subtitles DVBS)
2=Video (MPEG 1/2, 720x576x25, Planar 4:2:0)
Other programs such as Windows Media Centre and VideoRedo V4.21.2.665 can see and display the subtitles.
Are there any other settings in VLC that I need to check/change to make the subtitles actually be displayed.
Note that these are DVB subtitles embedded in the WTV file, not subtitles that are supplied in a separate SRT file.
