Can VLC auto-refresh incoming stream?

I record wildlife webcams which are frequently streaming on poor broadband connections from the middle of nowhere. Consequently the stream sometimes goes down and, if it doesn't automatically start up again quickly, VLC finalises the recording (thank you VLC, at least I haven't lost everything) but if I'm not around to re-open the network stream and restart recording... that's that :(

I have browser extensions for auto-refresh that I use for screen capture recording, but Is there any way that VLC can refresh the incoming stream at regular, user-set, intervals while it continues to record?

Did you try the http-reconnect option?

I shall have to resort to the labyrinthine wiki for that, Jean-Baptise ;) Thank you for the hint.

Aha! Is it this?

Do I have to do anything other than tick the Auto-reconnect box?

Thank you :)

Not the wiki, in the preferences.

I must have cross-posted so this wasn't here when you responded, Jean-Babtiste.

By the way, I have made and posted in another place some beginner's guides (1) to playing a stream with VLC, and (2) to recording the stream. Some people have said they are very easy to follow - is there any point me copying them here, and if so, where?

UPDATE:

I'm sure that VLC has been recording much more reliably since adopting Jean-Baptiste's tip and ticking the Auto-reconnect box - so I assume I found the right box ;)
