How to Stream Desktop Live Streams to DLNA Smart TV?

Hi,

Dell Inspiron 570 PC
Windows7
NETGEAR N600 Dual-Band Router
VLC 2.0.7
StreamTorrent
TVersity Media Server

Is this possible?

Recently purchased a Vizio E601i-A3 60" Smart TV, DLNA Enabled, and have been trying to find a method of viewing my Windows7 Desktop on the TV. I came across VLC Media Player: Desktop Streaming but this instruction is for streaming from one Desktop to another (not from a Desktop PC to a DLNA enabled Smart TV). There may be different settings in there to do what I want, but I have no clue what else to do.

Are there any step-by-step instructions on how I can view my Desktop live streams (streams source would be e.g. StreamTorrent)? I've searched the net but haven't come across any clear and concise, easy-to-follow instructions, so I'm hoping this forum can help me out if there is a methodology available to accomplish this task.

My hope is to be able to view e.g. a live streaming sports event using my StreamTorrent client, and be able to view this stream on my Smart TV.

Thanks!

Gene :D

VLC does not currently support streaming output via DLNA or UPnP AV. Patch welcome.

My solution to streaming my computer's Desktop to my Vizio Smart TV (DLNA) was two-fold:

1) For LIVE streams, I purchased the Chromecast HDMI Streaming Media Player for (at the time) $35.00. By also installing the Google Chrome Browser, I can now send to the TV the Chrome tab/window where I am viewing a live stream, OR, it can send the entire Desktop to the TV allowing me to view any streaming video seen on the computer's Desktop on a different browser, such as Firefox or IE.

2) Installed the TVersity DLNA Media Server application which enables me to view any media content/file (Video, Audio, Photo) on my TV. TVersity streams multimedia content from a personal computer to UPnP, DLNA and mobile devices (Chromecast is also supported). If you know where to look, you can get a free download of TVersity that works great. The version of TVersity that works best for me is version 2.3 (which is NOT the latest version).

For either one, a WiFi connection is required of course.

Hope this helps!

Chromecast (Amazon $29.99)

TVersity (Cnet)
