Direct3D related crashing W8

Postby talbot » 25 Jul 2013 08:59

Fresh install of 2.0.7, watching a video on monitor 1. Launch full screen game on monitor 2 and all video drops to about 4fps; VLC, wmp, flash, silverlight, etc. There are rumors that it's fixed in 8.1, but in the meantime, if I switch compatibility mode on the game to W7 or below that lag doesn't happen. Except that VLC crashes and won't open again ("VLC has crashed, send report?") until I delete preferences. I ran the debug logger and it said it was direct3D.

Code: Select all

direct3d error: Direct3DReset failed ! (hr=88760868) direct3d error: Failed to reset device main error: Failed to reset pictures (probably fatal)
So I change the video in VLC to OpenGL and the error still says it's direct3D's fault. viewtopic.php?f=14&t=107987 That's the same issue I'm having but I don't know anything about backtracing on Windows. So I did a procdump recreating the crash, if there's some problem accessing the file let me know. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B38RYLM ... sp=sharing

We need a bit more logs, to be honest.

I set verbosity to 2 but since the program crashes I can't see what it says and the log file isn't saved. That's why I did a procdump. Would the "crashdump" file help? https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B38RYLM ... sp=sharing

I grabbed the debug client, it doesn't crash, the video freezes, and it doesn't corrupt my preferences like the regular client. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B38RYLM ... sp=sharing

The main bit seems to be this.

Code: Select all

direct3d debug: Reusing 233x23 texture for OSD main warning: VoutDisplayEvent 'pictures invalid' direct3d debug: Display:313 (hr=0x88760868) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 298 ms) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 256 ms) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 215 ms) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 173 ms) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 131 ms) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 90 ms) main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 48 ms) main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 6 ms) direct3d debug: Display:313 (hr=0x88760868) direct3d debug: Direct3D scene released successfully main warning: playback too late (60854): up-sampling direct3d error: Direct3DReset failed ! (hr=88760868) direct3d error: Failed to reset device main error: Failed to reset pictures (probably fatal) main debug: A filter to adapt decoder to display is needed main debug: looking for video filter2 module matching "any": 55 candidates swscale debug: 720x416 chroma: I420 -> 720x416 chroma: I420 with scaling using Bicubic (good quality) main debug: using video filter2 module "swscale" main debug: Filter 'Swscale' (03a07d1c) appended to chain swscale warning: can't get output picture swscale warning: can't get output picture swscale warning: can't get output picture main warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 51 ms) main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 10 ms) swscale warning: can't get output picture
Repeat until exiting.

try not sending the bug to vlc, then you don't need to delete prefs.
