can't play dvds

I'm using VLC X64 and some of my DVDs won't work. I tried opening up the disc directly or thru the VIDEO_TS folder. I get the following error:

File reading failed:
VLC could not read the file (Bad file descriptor).

this only happens with dvds I purchased recently

Try this:
Tools -> Preferences -> Show settings: ALL
Input codecs -> Access modules -> DVD with menus
Untick the option "Start directly in menu".
Save the preferences then exit and restart VLC.

If it doesn't work, then I'm afraid your DVD is using a protection scheme that VLC can't deal with.

that still doesn't work.

But I found this player called "media player classic" that seems to works with these dvds. guess I'm gonna go with that for now...

thanks anyways

Actually really weird thing happened when I tried Windows Media Player classic like recommened above. I got a very badly damaged version of the movie Disconnect playing, when the DVD is clearly labled "Mud". I wonder if this is DRM or some bizarre DVD. I got the DVD from netflix, maybe there was some sort of malfunction with one of their DVD creators.
